Linux Install Fest and GPG Keysigning Party (Fall 2007)
From Computer Science Community
|
Fall 2007 Event Completed: We had a decent turn-out (around 20 non-NMUUUG people). Please contact the NMU Unix User Group concerning future events or any related queries.
[edit] What is the Linux Install Fest?
The primary focus of this event is the installation of our own Linux distribution based off of Ubuntu, called NMUBUNTU! NMUBUNTU is tailored to the ThinkPad R60s and the NMU campus. However, we won't limit ourselves to just that; all *nix distributions are welcome!
[edit] What is the GPG Keysigning Party?
"A key signing party is a get-together of people who use the PGP encryption system with the purpose of allowing those people to sign each others keys." If you're interested in participating in the GPG Keysigning Party, please send an e-mail to Brian!
- GPG Keysigning Party Information
"Key signing parties serve to extend the web of trust to a great degree. Key signing parties also serve as great opportunities to discuss the political and social issues surrounding strong cryptography, individual liberties, individual sovereignty, and even implementing encryption technologies or perhaps future work on free encryption software." (Source: GPG Keysigning Party HOWTO)

[edit] FAQ
- Will I have to remove Windows?
Nope! Linux works quite well along with other operating systems such as Windows. - Should I backup my data?
Yes! It's strongly recommended that you backup your data; we will be able to do a backup at the event if you are not able to do so beforehand. - What should I bring?
Your computer! If you have a desktop system, it's recommended that you bring along your keyboard, mouse, and display. However, we will be able to provide a limited supply keyboards, mice and displays for use at the fest if it's awkward to bring your own.
