ACM Meeting Minutes 2009.09.11
From Computer Science Community
- Argonne Registration - Today was the due date to get abstracts in and registration/deposit into Christy in the physics department office. If you missed the deadline, you'll have to pay for yourself to get there, sorry. Otherwise, we had some great ideas for projects developed in the BrainStorm meeting last Tuesday, can't wait to see what comes out of them.
- Designer's Corner - Have an artistic side? Yes? Why not design a T-Shirt or help out with ideas for painting our club mural! Not very artistic? That's ok! We still need some ideas, good or bad, as we're a bit shy on some in general. We need some designs to vote on! For general guidelines, see below, but please note that these are *guidelines* not *rules*:
- T-Shirts - We're looking for general Computer Science T-Shirts, we're thinking of a clean, near-professional looking design as we're hoping this is what identifies us at other schools, for example the Programming Contest coming in November. We can't use NMU logos or trademarks though, as those must go through the marketing department and that.
- Mural - Just about anything goes here, though things that are in the artistic abilities of an average computer science student (just above stick figures?) are highly recommended :). If you're interested, send an email to acm@nmu.edu, whether you have pictures, a paragraph for a description, or just want to express interest.
- NMU High School Math Contest - Our very own Andy Poe is hosting NMU's first math contest for high school students in the UP. The contest will be held October 24th 2009 (10/24/09). If you're interested in volunteering, there will be a sign up sheet in NSF1207 (the CS Lab). If you have questions contact Andy Poe at: apoe@nmu.edu.
- SACK Meeting - NMU-ACM member David Lyon has set up a volunteer organization called "Students for the Advancement of Computing Knowledge" (a.k.a. SACK) and will hold a meeting today (09/14/09) at 7:00PM. This organization designed around the idea of taking time outside of school to help people around the area with general knowledge of their computers. For more information, send an email to dlyon@nmu.edu
- Our first practice contest!! - We had our first practice problem contest for the upcoming ACM programming contest being held in Sault St. Marie at Lake Superior State University this year. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, no one officially won, but several were really close! Good job guys! Heather Arpoika won the prize of a ticket to the Olympic Speed Skating Trails held later that day. To see the full problem, test input, test output, and a sample solution, check out the problem 4 links at: http://euclid.nmu.edu/~apoe/ACM2001/<http://euclid.nmu.edu/%7Eapoe/ACM2001/>
